(More customer reviews)I spent two hours looking at many different types of Motorcycle jackets.

I had 3 goals
1. Protection
2. Fit
3. cooler for warmer temps

My first thought when trying on the various brand names was I was glad I am seeing these jackets in a store, instead of just buying one on the internet. Some of the jackets were heavier than me. Some fit badly even though they were my normal size medium. And the mesh jackets seemed a lot of trouble with there waterproof inserts and all.

I had Joe Rocket pants and absolutely love them but their jackets just didn't fit me and they didn't even begin to look like what I imagined on the internet.

I bought the Cortech for several reasons.

It was not bulky but it felt very protective. Some jackets seemed to weigh more than me. The jacket felt very comfortable when I moved around.

The small size fit me perfectly, I usually wear medium, but small size was just right. The sleeves were not too long or short.

It is waterproof, no more messing around with rain jackets, in Oregon this is very important.

Quality, it certainly looks, as far as I can see, to have no flaws.Very well made.

Ventilation was good but not great, arms and the front by shoulders and back had venting. It seems like 80 degrees, if moving, would be comfortable. I went to buy a mesh jacket, I just couldn't believe in the mesh jackets for protection or quality.

Reflective striping was good. I choose the color black, I just liked it, I felt the striping would keep those that could see motorcycles ample opportunity to allow my presence on the road. The blue was nice and Red was okay.

The zip out lining seem it might extend the comfort to around 45 degrees.
I liked it, doubt I will use it over 60 degrees.The armor was placed exactly in the correct position and seemed stable, there were some expensive jackets where the armor could move significantly.

And the price with my AMA discount was great.

I wish there was one jacket for all occasions, although crashing is not something I wish to too, it certainly has happen to some excellent riders. So even though I want to be cool on those hot sunny afternoons, I went for safety instead.

I am happy with my purchase, but I want to caution you to find a store, if you can that sells all the major brands. Try them on, dedicate at least one hour.I am sure I would have bought a jacket that I would have been stuck with or had to play the return game if I hadn't try them on in this store. The jacket I was going to buy, brand name, was terrible for me.

One last thing, I want to thank the Honda store that left me alone for a long time, until I was ready for them, a leisurely pace looking at jackets was wonderful.I enjoyed giving them money.

HJC IS-16 MOTORCYCLE HELMET BLACK XS Review

(More customer reviews)This is a helmet boasting features of much higher priced helmets.It is very comfortable, at least if you have a round head(there are several head shapes) and very well ventilated.It is reasonably light for such a full-featured and affordable helmet, and so well balanced that it feels even lighter than it is, when wearing it.

This helmet, being white, increases your visibility dramatically.Studies show that a white or hi-viz helmet is the most important piece of high-viz gear one can wear.The white is also cooler in the heat of summer.

A huge plus for me is that it is longer in the chin area than most other helmets. This puts more space between your chin and the chin bar.For me, it means that my lips are not up against the chin bar.

It comes with a breath deflector, wind curtain, locking visor, and an inner sun-shade visor which is actuated by the slider on top.The sun visor is a boon, and I can't imagine going without it now.

The one thing I wish HJC would do is put another position on the sun-visor that would allow it to come down 1/2 way, just under your line of sight.

A bonus of this helmet is that it has holes for intercoms under little insignias on the side, that are easily pried off.Also, the interior is easlily removable for installing an intercom, and there are two vent ports in the foam front liner that allow a microphone to be installes, totally out of the way, very easily.The one caveat on installing a mic in one of these ports is that you should tape over the port hole, and over the vent in front of the port as well, or you will get major wind noise...

I have actually tested one of these helmets in a crash, and it performed flawlessly.One thing to consider is that the visor has a lock on it.I usually do not use this lock, but in my crash, it locked by itself.This caused me a moment's panic when I tried to remove it, but I pulled very hard and it opened up in spite of the lock.As that helmet had been used in a crash, I bought a new HJC IS16 to replace the old one.If I had to replace my current helmet, it would be with another HJC IS16!

While the bag is big enough to fit just about anything, the opening is about a third the size of the bag itself. Consequently, you can't fit anything rigid into the bag, and even non-rigid things will be difficult to fit in it. Look elsewhere for a tank bag.

(More customer reviews)The glove is very comfortable and all leather which is uncommon for the price point.There is extra reinforcement in just about any conceivable place it would be needed and is pitted and vented for warmer weather.These run small so you'll probably want to go up a size when ordering (they're like Rev'its in that regard).The interior is comfortable too with a soft fleece lining and the double velcro tab closure and 360 degree wrist strap allow you to cinch the glove down securely.

Shoei Hornet DS Sonora Helmet Review

(More customer reviews)It's everything I looked for.Great fit, Very nice face shield, seals great, has high quality feel and several detents for partially open, etc.Visor is a touch shorter than a full off road MX style helmet, which is good at road speeds.Up to 60 mph or so...buffeting is not bad.Faster, I would say be careful.Any visor is gonna start to pull your head around as the wind picks up...but yes...visor is worth having, really blocks the low sun morning/eve.Fogging is very minimal except when I rode a few times at 35 degrees out, even then, only when stopped.

For Dual Sport riders, this is a great helmet. I hated to pay 400 bucks for it but did and am very glad.The cheekpads are removable and for 40 bucks, you can get thinner/thicker ones for a PERFECT feel.

What pushed me over the edge to buy was the feel, specifically...large ear pockets inside this helmet=NO crushed ears.I hate that!

The only real quality competitor to this model is the Arai XD, which is also a very nice helmet, fit, etc. BUT...visor is longer and I bet grabs more air=more wind buffeting on the street. For buzzing around town either would be good though. I did try both the Shoei and Arai on, then settled on the Shoei becuase of price and the shorter visor.A bonus I did not expect but got with this, is MUCH more peripheral vision than any of my street helmets in the past!

Lastly, Simpson makes a helmet of this type but the quality is not up to par.I wanted to buy American but nothing about it matched the Arai or Shoei.Too bad.I used to buy only Simpson.

(More customer reviews)I bought this in early Feb 2010 as winter just seemed to be hanging on and I wanted to ride in Middle Tennessee.I went out for a ride the day after I got this at 30degree (F) clear skies and the only thing that was cold on me was my legs.

Jacket is bullet proof and tight.Tons of pockets - so much you might lose stuff.The fit and finish appears excellent on the exterior as well as the inner liner.I got the flourescent green/yellow color and my buddy I ride with told me this sticks out more than the bike, headlights, or taillights ever would.He says there's no mistaking when I'm around.

Fit: I purchased size large.
I'm 5'8" tall, 34' waist, 44 chest, 17" sleeve, 190lbs.I had to sinch in the side straps because it was too loose when I first got it.The sleeves are a tad long by about an inch, but I'll live with that.I'd heard Fieldsheer was sized small, but I'd say they are dead-on with this one.I have some room to grow as I age, and this will be perfect size for years to come.

Warmth:As mentioned before, this jacket is tight as in watertight.Lots of straps to tighten the load, zippers all function properly, and there is no intrusion of cold air or wind into the jacket with the zippers closed.
NOTE:I cannot wear this inside because I start to sweat.So I've only been able to sling it on as I head out the door - there's no standing around where there is heat around.

I love the pocket on the sleeve for the key.Added feature I didn't know about was a hook on a string so nothing falls out of the pocket.You can easily clip your key to this.Pocket is big enough to hold a small cell phone.

I've not yet riden in warmer weather, but will update this post when I get more riding time in.

Tour Master Cold-Tex Gloves - Medium/Black Review

(More customer reviews)I bought these gloves for riding in the cold, 40 degrees and below. They were recommended by the dealer. I wore them in 40 degrees for half hour and my fingers were in pain. This was on a V-strom with handguards. They are no better than the ones I already own. And the liner comes out when you pull the glove off and jams up when you put the glove back on. I would like a refund but don't have the tag. And the right one is tighter than the left one. Would I buy them again.....no.

(More customer reviews)I'vehad this jacket for a month now and I love it! I really love the versitility of it. This jacket has three layers, the outside mesh, the middle wind/water proof, and the interior insulation. The outside mesh has the armor and feels very secure and safe on its own. I can also configure it any way I want, I can wear it mesh only, with just the wind/water shield, just the insulation inside, or all three layers to stay warm. The first night I received the jacket I had to work til 3am with the temperature in the low 40s and I was comfortable. I've also had the opportunity to wear it into the 80s and the wind comes right through the mesh. Overall, this is an exceptional jacket and I'm glad I bought it.

The perforated pants provide adequate ventilation for summer riding while also having hard armor in the knees and softer armor around the hips. The wind/rain liner is good for rain conditions or just slightly cool fall riding. Add in the thermal liner for when things start getting really cold and you can ride well into the winter (depending on your motorcycle/scooter and abilities). Unfortunately, I have already put these pants to the test in an accident and they performed as expected. The knee armor took a serious hit. I probably would not be walking for a while if that had been my knee taking that damage. So where your safety gear all the time and don't forget any part of it, unless you don't mind scraping that part of your body off. Safety is more than a helmet. Remember gloves, jacket, pants, & boots.
